Nashville based SPARS member Welcome to 1979 has announced the dates for their next highly sought after Tape Camp. The sessions, sponsored by Vintage King and taught by Welcome to 1979 co-owner, Chris Mara, are slated for July 7-9, 2012 in Chicago at Wall to Wall Recording.
Mara’s Tape Camp is a weekend of ultra-hands-on analog recording and networking for recording enthusiasts. The Two-Day workshop (Sat & Sun) is limited to 12 people, and the third day, which focuses exclusively on tape machine alignment, is limited to 6 people. Scores who have attended past events all agree the sessions are truly a unique experience. The discussions/techniques can be tailor made depending upon what participants want covered. Vintage King will also be supplying various pieces of “classic” gear for use during the weekend.
Mara and his wife Yoli are committed to building a community of like-minded folks! For those interested in learning more about recording in general, or about recording the analog way, Mara, his wife and the folks at Welcome to 1979 host “Tape Camps” every few months, both at ’79 and at other analog studios around the country. They take a full weekend to explore all the fun things associated with analog recording: tape delays, reverb chambers, plate reverbs, tracking and mixing theories – you name it! They also bring in a band of session players who provide a real world experience. All participants have the opportunity to apply what they have learned – to engineer and learn how to use the “Mara Machines”! At the end of the weekend, participants are able to take home their digital files (transferred from tape) for use in their personal recording setup!
