“All About Mastering” with Scott Hull

Scott Hull is a veteran mastering engineer and the owner of Masterdisk. Scott’s mastering expertise runs the gamut of modern recorded music. He is equally accomplished in pop, rock, avant-garde, soundtracks, world, jazz, soul and many other areas of music. Scott is also an expert on mastering for vinyl. Scott has mastered for Sting, Steely Dan, John Mayer, Herbie Hancock, Bob Dylan, The Dave Matthews Band, Linda Thompson, John Zorn, Donald Fagen, Sharon Jones & The Dap Kings, and many more.

Shaun Wall (FOH Engineer/Production Manager, Elephant Revival) moved to Boulder, Colorado  in 2008 to work under Craig Roush and refine the knowledge he learned at Webster University. Over the next three years, he worked with over 300 different bands at festivals and venues around Colorado. In 2011, he began touring with Elephant Revival. In the past three years, he has visited 45 states, 3 countries, and has mixed in over 300 venues with the band–from living rooms to 20,000 seat arenas. This summer he will get to mix his band with the Colorado Symphony at Red Rocks.

Shaun began playing music at 10 years old and has explored a handful of different instruments as well different dance styles in the past 5 years. He believes that the more ways you experience music in different ways, the more inspiration you can draw in your mixing.

Drew Waters is VP of Archives at Capitol Records in Hollywood, California. Additionally, he is an accomplished bassist, composer and recording engineer who holds a Ph.D. in Performance and Composition from New York University.

A long supporter of education, Drew has held the position of Assistant Professor at CSU Monterey Bay as well as at SUNY Plattsburgh, teaching a wide variety of music and recording courses. He is a member of AES, SOCAN and is a voting member of NARAS.

Kirk Imamura, President, Avatar Studios, New York

Kirk Imamura has over 18 years experience in the consumer electronics industry working for Sony Corporation. Kirk has a Bachelor’s and Master’s Degrees in Mechanical Engineering from the University of California, Berkeley and an MBA from San Diego State University. He has engineering and management experience in equipment design, software development, large scale manufacturing operations, product development and strategic & business planning. Since leaving Sony, Kirk has spent over 13 years in the music industry successfully running and guiding the operations of Avatar Studios in New York as President. During his tenure, the studio has been awarded five TEC Awards for Outstanding Creative Achievement. Kirk is currently President of the SPARS (Society of Professional Audio Recording Services) Foundation.
